Links & Other Sources of Information
If you would like to learn more about EMF, we recommend the following sources:
BCTC
Understanding Electric and Magnetic Fields
(PDF, 494KB)
- this booklet explains EMF and summarizes what national and international health and scientific agencies have said about EMF and health.
EMF and Health: Review and Update of the Scientific Research
(PDF, 1MB)
- This report was prepared by Exponent for BCTC to assess the current status of research regarding the potential for health effects from exposure to EMF. Exponent is a leading technical and scientific research firm that provides BCTC with a regular weight-of-evidence review on current EMF research.
Health Canada
It’s Your Health Fact Sheet: Electric and Magnetic Fields at Extremely Low Frequencies
- this fact sheet from Health Canada includes basic information about EMF, typical Canadian exposures, and Health Canada’s role with regards to EMF.
BC Centre for Disease Control
Power Frequency Electric and Magnetic Fields and Health
- this site from the BC Centre for Disease Control includes statements from experts, information on scientific studies, and resources for more information.
World Health Organization
Electromagnetic Fields
- this site from the World Health Organization provides links to EMF fact sheets, extensive research publications, and general information about EMF.
Extremely Low Frequency Fields Environmental Health Criteria Monograph No. 238
- this monograph addresses the possible health effects of exposure to extremely low frequency electric and magnetic fields. The main objective was to review the scientific literature on the biological effects of exposure to ELF fields in order to assess any health risks, and to use this health risk assessment to make recommendations to national authorities on health protection programs.
This report was an outcome of the International EMF Project.
Fact Sheet No. 322: Electromagnetic fields and public health
- this fact sheet summarizes the findings of Environmental Health Criteria Monograph No. 238 (June 2007) conducted on Extremely Low Frequency Fields.
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
Environmental Health Topics: Electric & Magnetic Fields
- this US National Institute site provides information on research conclusions and results and overall information regarding EMF.
Canadian Electricity Association
Electric and Magnetic Fields and the Canadian Electricity Industry
- The Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) is the professional association of electrical companies across Canada. You can find information about the CEA’s commitments to safety, and EMF research on the site.
Perspectives on Electric and Magnetic Fields
- this fact sheet produced by the CEA discusses the science and research related to electric and magnetic fields.
