Metal Theft Prevention

BCTC and BC Hydro are deeply concerned about metals theft, and the risk it presents to the safety of the public and of our employees. Intruding into facilities endangers perpetrators’ safety and could render hazardous equipment accessible to the public through damaged fences or gates. In particular, when copper grounding material has been removed, this can affect the safe and proper operation of the electrical system. Removing metal can disrupt electricity supply to the public including critical facilities, such as hospitals.

To address this, BCTC and BC Hydro are improving fence lines, deploying security guards, installing detection devices, and taking other measures so electricity can be delivered safely and reliably to your homes and businesses.
