Trees & Vegetation

We are committed to managing vegetation and pests in an environmentally, socially and financially sustainable way, while keeping BC Hydro's transmission system safe and reliable. The transmission system crosses over 75,000 hectares of land—a large, diverse area to maintain.

Find out about Vegetation & Rights-of-Way.
Did you know that trees that contact power lines account for up to half of all power outages in North America? That’s why management is essential in keeping the transmission lines, towers and structures uncompromised.

Considering planting near power lines? Get the information you need. Find out more about our Edge Tree Program.

Read about Substation Weed Control.
Vegetation growing at electrical facilities such as substations and switchyards can cause problems with the operation of the transmission system and can be a safety hazard to both workers and the public. We control vegetation to keep substations and other electrical facilities safe.

Get more information on Wood Pole Treatment.
Many different pests such as fungi and insects attack the wood poles we use on our transmission system. We work to maintain reliable poles.
