The majority of British Columbians live in communities in the Lower Mainland. With a population of two million people, 80 per cent of the power consumed in B.C. is used in the region. And over the next 20 years, that population is expected to grow to about 3.4 million (Source: Urban Futures Institute).
As more of us choose to live in the Lower Mainland and take advantage of its economic opportunities, the need for electricity in the region is growing. It’s time to upgrade the transmission capacity in the Lower Mainland to help deliver more power to its communities.
BCTC has several projects under way to ensure this region can continue to grow and prosper. The Interior to Lower Mainland Project will increase our ability to deliver power from B.C.’s interior to the region. We are maintaining reliable electricity on the North Shore by removing hazardous trees through our danger tree removal program.
