BCTC is building two new 69 kV circuits between Clayburn substation in Abbotsford and Mission substation. For the majority of the 9 kilometre route, the conductors will be double-circuited. Most of the route is on existing BC Hydro statutory right-of-way.
Some new equipment is being installed at Clayburn substation to support the new circuits. This required a small expansion to the substation, but all within BC Hydro-owned property.
This project will enhance the regional transmission system in Mission and surrounding communities such as Port Kells and Maple Ridge, by providing a firm supply of power from Clayburn substation. This will provide support to the existing electricity supply, which comes from Stave Lake and Ruskin generating stations, eliminating the risk of load curtailment which could occur under certain conditions in low-water months.
Planned in-service date is end of November 2008.
Another part of reinforcing the transmission system in Matsqui was the construction of a new substation to meet load growth in Abbotsford. The new Mt. Lehman substation, located west of Mt. Lehman Road near Heritage Dr., went into service in Fall 2007.
