BCTC is committed to public and worker safety. We also strive to be good neighbours in carrying out our work.
The Hazardous Tree Removal Program in the Braemar neighbourhood and Princess Park will involve:
- tagging and identifying trees using a Global Positioning System (GPS) - already completed
- cutting hazard trees
- creating wildlife trees
- side-limbing
- clean-up and fire prevention
- tree and shrub planting
Debris Management
Debris from tree removal will be managed to minimize visual impacts and associated fire hazard. This includes:
- removing debris from the site (where access is available)
- chipping and mulching to reduce debris accumulations
- scattering debris within Princess Park to increase levels of coarse woody debris (this would be in cooperation with the District of North Vancouver)
Re-vegetation
Following the final phase of tree removal, BCTC will plant Douglas fir, Western red cedar and other appropriate shrubs to restore visual screening to residences. In Princess Park, BCTC will provide operational and financial support to the District of North Vancouver to restore vegetation and forest health along the right-of-way within the Park where root rot is an identified forest health problem.
